Dutch cricketer found dead in S. Africa

Dutch cricketer Maurits van Nierop (25) was found dead in a street in Cape Town in South Africa on Wednesday, according to press reports. The cause of death is not yet known.

The batsman, who played for the local cricket team, made his debut with the Dutch national team against Ireland in 2004 and was on the selection list for the winter 2009 season.

Tax increase on”Beer” in the Netherlands

Government plans to raise the tax on beer by 30% from January 2009 could have a disastrous affect on Dutch brewery.

The government hopes the rise will help discourage youngsters and problem drinkers from buying beer.

However, the central brewery office CBK says the tax rise will hit average drinkers, coming on top of rising prices for grain, hops, energy and transport.
