Australian Christopher Wayne Hudson given life.

An Australian man who shot a Dutch backpacker three times as he tried to break up a shooting incident was jailed for life by a Melbourne court on Monday.

Paul de Waard was hit three times when he and a lawyer tried to stop the gunman dragging a woman out of a taxi in June 2007. De Waard did not die but the lawyer was shot dead.

Dutch town declared Europe’s greenest

The Dutch town of Uden in the south of the country has been declared Europe’s greenest. The award was announced during a European Union meeting in the Croatian town of Split. The international jury said it had been impressed by Uden’s public parks, which last year earned it the award for the greenest town in the Netherlands. The organisers of the yearly prize aim to convince towns, residents and companies across Europe of the vital importance of good public parks.

Holland sends observers to Georgia

Dutch drummer wins European jazz prize

Dutch drummer Han Bennink has been awarded the 2008 European Jazz Prize for his ‘vital’ contribution to European free jazz, largely for his work with composer-musicians Mischa Mengelberg, Willem Breuker and Peter Brötzman.
