Wheel clamps in Amsterdam the “Thing of the Past”

This familiar scene will become a thing of the past as wheel clamps will disappear from the streets of Amsterdam as of 1 January of next year.

Car free Sunday
The council is encouraging car sharing schemes, by giving car share companies free parking lots. And once a year there is the Car free Sunday, usually combined with a major sporting event to help drive the healthy lifestyle message home. Even North Amsterdam, which up to now is the only district still to have free parking, is planning to introduce paid parking around its shopping centre next year.

Holland wins world horse chariot title

The Netherlands has a new world champion in the form of horseman Ijsbrand Chardon, who took the world four-in-hand title on Sunday for the fourth time.

A four-in-hand is a carriage led by four horses which are tied together in such a way that they can be controlled by one driver.

British man wants murder trial reopened

British national Kevin Sweeney, currently serving 13 years for murdering his wife by setting their home in the southern Dutch province of Brabant on fire in 1995, has asked the appeal court to reopen his case.

Sweeney was jailed in 2001 after being acquitted by a lower court and argues a number of new facts about the case have since come to light.
