Help could come in the form of a mobile operating theatre, according to a consortium led by non-profit lab SRI International, based in Menlo Park, California.

The device, called Trauma Pod, is still in the early stages, but its developers claim it will ultimately be able to retrieve someone from the battlefield, diagnose them, and perform lifesaving procedures while transferring them to hospital.

Monitoring Players’ Brains to Find What Makes Games Fun

EmSense has developed a headset that measures physiological responses to media, including brainwaves, heart activity, breathing and temperature — variables which are used to calculate adrenaline levels, levels of engagement or interest, and emotional responses. For a blind, objective approach to the research, “event tags” are used to mark recurring instances between games (cutscenes, player deaths, etc), with the resulting data compared between titles.

Madagascar cockroach “Coming to a neighborhood near you”

University of Florida researchers are alerting pest-control operators and homeowners to be on the lookout for several new species of Florida’s least-favorite character, the cockroach.

Along with the “hissers,” the newest trespassers could include the Turkestan cockroach, lobster roach and the orange spotted roach. All could inadvertently be introduced to the state, UF entomologist Phil Koehler warned. And once here, they would thrive.
