Chicken manure to power 90,000 Dutch homes

Agriculture Minister Gerda Verburg opened a biomass power station which will convert one-third of all chicken manure residue in the Netherlands into green energy. The power produced by the plant in Moerdijk near Rotterdam should supply about 90,000 Dutch homes with electricity.

However, the plant will only deal with a small amount of the total manure produced in the Netherlands, most of which comes from cows and pigs. Manure from chickens is drier and this makes it easier to process into energy than other types.
