Karel Appel painting stolen

A 2.2 metre-long painting by Karel Appel has been stolen from an art gallery in Amsterdam. The thief grabbed the painting and made off on a moped.

Gallery owner Nico Koster told local tv station AT5 that the thief had been in the gallery two weeks previously. He had posed as a student who had to give a talk about the painter, one of the founders of the avant-garde Cobra movement.
